26 Weeks Pregnant! and a Weird Note!

Your baby now weighs about a pound and two-thirds and measures 14 inches (an English hothouse cucumber), from head to heel. The nerve pathways in his ears are developing, which means his response to sounds is growing more consistent. His lungs are developing now, too, as he continues to take small breaths of amniotic fluid — good practice for when he's born and takes that first breath of air. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.

On the doc front. I went to see the OB yesterday and everything was awesome! I have gained a total of 17 lbs (right on track), my scar is just stretching (not pulling away from the skin - as I first thought) and I took that NASTY sugar test (thank you so much freaders for warning me what it was going to be like)! I get the results sometime next week.

On a really weird note - and I know I am totally opening a can of worms with this one... but I was watching Oprah, and it was about Women who were married and then decided they were gay. You see... here is the thing? When hubs and I decided to get married there was a lot of red tape we had to go through. I worked as a waitress then (and they did offer health insurance) but I wanted to be on my hubs insurance. Unfortunately, the day we signed the marriage certificate was the earliest I could get insurance. B/C hubs worked for a large company they offered same sex marriage options, and one of them was that if a same sex couple lived in the same house for 6 months the partner was already covered. Now, this is not my question. My question is, most people on Oprah had a same sex partner and most of them wanted to be married. Now, my mom is a polotic fanatic, I, on the other hand, am not.

So... what is your opionion on why same sex marriages can't occur?

Now, I am Catholic so I get all the religious reasons and so on and so forth. But folks, we haven't lived by the bible (if you will) for decades now. What is the political reason they won't pass this law. I am not against or for, I just want to know, why shouldn't everyone have the right to go through all that red tape?

being a gay man myself, i'm a bit torn on the whole 'gay marriage' issue. while i think that we should be afforded the same rights as straight couples, do we honestly need that paper that says we're a couple? in my opinion, no. if i am in love with someone and i'm a couple with them for an extended period of time, then in all intents and purposes, we're basically a married couple if it's how we both think. i mean, i can understand the reasoning behind being married to be able to be covered under a partner's insurance, but so many companies these days are offering same sex couple benefits and i think in the long run that will accomplish two things:

1. people will stop being as gung-ho about gay marriage, though they may still crave it.
2. governmental agencies will finally view this acceptance as perhaps a step forward and might lessen up on their extreme views.

as to your question as to why people are against it, i honestly think it has to do with what people assume the bible states. half the people that quote the bible as the final word against gay marriage have probably not even read the book or even that verse. if you were to read leviticus, it also states that people who are dwarves, club-footed, etc ... are also going to hell. i wonder why, then, there aren't any coalition fanatics going after those people.

and the government using the bible as reference against this 'immoral act' are forgetting one important detail ... separation of church and state. it should be a human issue, not a religious one.

dunno, that's just my view. hope i don't stir up a hornet's nest.

Because we have an outdated political system. And if it has to do with religion...what about all of the people running this country that are liars? Because I'm pretty sure that lying, stealing, cheating, etc. are all NO NO'S in the "bible"

I think people are afraid of allowing gay marriages because they don't understand that LOVE IS THE SAME. REGARDLESS OF GENDER.
Somehow that seems that is a lesson that the bible decided to skip.

It comes down to fear and ignorance.

i am all for gay marriage. i think the reason it hasn't been legalized is due to the lack of separation between church and state in this country. i mean look at our current president - he prays to the nation! (i know you're from texas so i'm not trying to offend you either, but you have to admit he a bit on the religious side to be a leader of an entire country of believer AND non believers)

I grew up 'against' gay marriage in general because, in the small town I was from, I had no exposure to it. When I went to college and traveled aboard and moved to the city my eyes were opened to the "real world" and a lot of my views changed.

One argument I have heard against gay marriage is due to the benefits. Some people have argued that straight friends or roommates will go for it just to take advantages of tax breaks and insurance and whatnot. Whether or not this would actually make the economy any worse... idk. but eh. It's just something I heard
