A Sad Day in the World of Music

LeRoi Moore, the saxaphonist from the Dave Matthews Band (our FAVORITE band) has passed away, according to the media due to complications from an ATV accident he had in June.

Hubs and I are devastated at this news, as the Sax is one of my favorite instruments, and LeRoi was an amazing musician.

Our prayers and well wishes are with his family and friends!

Couple A Things

1. Is it me or are the guys just way better than the girls this season on AI? I mean seriously, don't they know the rule. Don't do Whitney!! It doesn't matter that she's a crack pot, it doesn't matter she married the sleaziest man KNOWN to man kind, it doesn't matter... you just don't do WHITNEY! Come on!

2. Ok, I know I said the guys were better, and really... David (I heart you in so many ways!) Dreadlock guy- love your eyes and your voice! and Micheal Hutchins look-a-like- you officially rock, oh and not to mention cool emo guy who sang Lionel Richie!! OH YEAH! However, Luke... you see, wake me up before you go-go by WHAM, is like my ALL TIME favorite song... why I have no idea? Because I am cool like that. I mean, why even try to butcher such meaningful lyrics... wake me up before you go-go, don't leave me hangin on like a yo-yo! If you can't rock it like WHAM, please don't attempt! The 3 fans still left in the world, would really just like so savor the original, kthx!

3. Can I also just say that MAC's nymphete lipstick makes me happy! Yesterday, I was feeling like a large waddling cow, and couldn't really find anything to wear. So I threw on some sneakers for my slightly swollen feet, a sweater (because the weather in TX sucks!) and jeans. But honey... you know I put on some lipstick and some glosss! Oh yeah! I may have been headed to target, but my lips were kissable!! Sometimes you just need a little pucker filled pout!

and on a happy note....

4. My 3rd and final baby shower is being thrown this weekend. I am seriously excited! Not really for the gifts (well, there nice too) but mostly to hang out with my girls! The 2 girls throwing this shower, are really my best friends. We have the most bizarre personalities, but somehow it works. One is the emotional one - always a shoulder to cry on, and always the life of the party. Really, she is just sweet overall! She IS a pisces though, what do you expect? The other - tells it like it is! I mean if you have a problem she will give you a solution! She doesn't sugar coat it, which is my favorite part about her. You know when there are just those people that you can ask and they will tell you, the good, the bad and the ugly! That's her! It puts a smile on my face just thinkin about it. Love them! Love them together, and apart. I just couldn't be happier they are doing such a wonderful thing for me!!
-------------------------

Oh and today... in case your keeping up. I am 33 weeks pregnant. I think I might cry, truthfully because Brady is sitting on some organ and it hurts like hell, but also because in 4 weeks I will be full term and elastic waist pants, will be a thing of the past. OH YEAH!

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds (heft a pineapple) and has passed the 17-inch mark. He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.

Gay Elvis?

*Let me preface this post by saying... I LOVE gay guys. Most of the time they are a blast and when I worked retail, I couldn't get enough of shopping and hanging out with them.

Last night on American Idol the guys sang. I thought some of them were pretty good, however I was pretty peeved that they took the Leif Garrett look-a-like over the Southern homeless kid. I think his name was Josiah? Overall, though, I thought it was an ok show. Some VERY weird song choices... hello Grand Prarie, Texas guy, with the weird blonde streak in your hair? Ummm.... did you think you were on some Carnival Cruise and that the song MoonRiver wasn't cheesy enough? Somehow you thought you had to add a little Velveta to the mix. UGH! Anywho...

My question is... can anyone explain how both gay guys (now, I am totally stereotyping here, I have no idea IF they are gay, but they don't seem to be shying away from the closet) picked an Elvis song? I mean, we are talking ELVIS here. The Original, All American, Swinging hips heterosexual Elviss! He was the original heart throb.
Ok that David guy, with the blackish brown hair, I LOVED the outfit, but you didn't even sing jail house rock. You just shook your non butt and your skinny tie. And then there was that blonde guy, I think his name was Colton, ok WHATEVER! That was NOT good. I didn't get it!

I am seriously not trying to bash the gay guys (there were plenty others that were bad) but come on people! If you gonna pick Elvis... make him sound masculine and rock it out!!

*Stepping down from Soapbox now, kthx!

Eehhm!

Started to talk and found out my voice didn't really want to stick around. UGH! I hate having a scratchy voice. I sound like a man. More like a guy selling hot dogs at a Ball Park. This sucks.

Fat Belly, Baby kicking, sugar too high to eat ice cream, and now this. Damn, what a night. BLUGH!
Maybe I am having simpathy for all the singers on American Idol... ok seriously, GUY LINER RYAN? Who are you kidding with that? Kthxbye!

Music

So I was reading this funny blog at footsteps in the sand and it was a Meme about putting your IPOD on shuffle and answering questions. Quite humorous!!

So I was thinking, I am always talking about singing, but no one has ever heard this amazing song that my hubs and I wrote one Sunday Morning. And my hubs is TOTALLY singing background... hee hee.

I can't figure out how to upload the thing, but here is the link. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=55917159

Anyhoo, just being weird, and strangely sentimental. So I thought I would share this with you.

Tell me what you think? Obviously it is not finished. There is only an acoustic guitar, no drums or bass :)

P.S. I think I felt the baby move today. It felt like if you were watching a glass of San Pelligrino and you see the bubbles float to the top. That is kind of what it gelt like? I hope that is it? Otherwise, I must have some very strange gas?!*?

The BEST Cheap Music Site!

So my hubs found this amazing website, like a year ago. It is a Russian site to download music, and all the amounts are in Rubles (sp?), which in turn translates, to REALLY cheap for the dollar, Euro or Pound! Secret Russian Website. You can download pretty much anything! They have all types of music and to purchase a whole album is anywhere from $1 to $12. It is just awesome! Seriously, if you are a music download lover, you have got to check this out!

You can read more about an amazing artist that we found as well, Paul Potts on my hubs Blog.

Ok on a totally random note...
Did anyone see the finale of The Contender. OH MY GOD, seriously that was one of the best fights I have seen in a long time. I just recently got into to Boxing, because of the Contender, but now I am a bit of boxer addict. Anytime it is on ESPN I will watch it. It is a little harder to read when they don't slow mo, but this was a fight I would recommend watching.

We Came, We Saw, We Got a Wristband

Just wanted to give you all an update...
My mom and I flew to Jacksonville, FL, on Wed morning, with my little brother in tow. We get to Jacksonville, and it is a sticky 85 degrees, but we are excited about the prospect and about the opportunity to try again!
We grab some lunch (damn good hot dogs!) from my uncle, take a nap, and at 10:00pm, we start the drive to SC. We heard it was about 5hrs, but at 11pm, really there isn't anyone on the road. So after driving, about 4 hours, we end up in beautiful Charleston, SC!
This was at 1:30 AM. My mom and I decided there really isn't going to be anyone waiting in line, at this hour, so we drive past the collusium, only to see that people are already waiting to park. OH MY GOSH!! Are you kidding. So, as delerius as we are, we start waiting in line. We wait until 6:30 AM, and we are almost the first to register. We grab our wristbands and our tickets and we are off to sight see.... NOT!!
We stumble to an IHOP across the street, where our delerium continues. We order, wait, eat, and drive to the hotel...praying, at this point, they have an open room, that we can crash in. You have to remember the day before I woke up at 3:30am, to board a plane, sleep an hour, then drive 4hrs, stay up all night and now at 7:00am the NEXT morning. My mom and I are just beat!!
I go inside the hotel, schmooze them a little, to get a room, but to our dismay. Check in is at 3pm and they will see what they can do in the meantime, but it isn't looking good :( My mom and I were so tired, we park the car and end up falling asleep in the car, in the parking lot of the hotel. A maid comes out of room, knocks on our door, probably thinking we were bums, and tells us, to come inside. We stumble inside and to our luck, they have gotten a room ready. By this time it is 9:40, the humidity is about 400% and we are looking awesome!! Finally, we are able to take a shower, and sleep.... aaahhh!
That night, we wake up around 5pm, drive to a restaurant called the Noisy Oyster and dine on the best seafood, I have had in the longest time. Then we ordered this key lime pie... holy crap! I have never had a better key lime pie... EVER! Plus, since I am hypo glycemic, the only desert I ever want is key lime pie... so in a way, I am a conniseur :) Seriously the best!!
After dinner, we decided, our bodies had had enough, we needed more rest (man are we crazy or what!!)
The next day we went to this most amazing place, the Magnolia Plantation. It is over 500 acres of beautiful garden, swomp, grounds and houses. It was truly incredible! (I'll post pics and videos as soon as I am back home in TX). Then my mom and I became rebells, got tattoos, shopped and dined on the best ribs (sorry babe) I have ever eaten in my entire life! Sticky Fingers restaurant certainly does live up to its name. We were licking our fingers by the end and with as much as we ate, we could have been wheeled out of the restaurant!
So today rolls around, we go, wait on line and get ready to audition. Since we got there so freakin early Thursday, we were the first to audition. I went up there, sang my heart out, and they decided to pass yet again. Truthfully, I knew this wasn't my path, but I have a lot of support and I appreciate that, so we went. I wouldn't have traded it for the world! I am back in Jacksonville right now, hanging out with the fam.
What's to come... well, my mom and I have decided to write an album, some of jazz standards and others orignals. The album should be out by Christmas (cross your fingers) and we will start marketing, come Jan 1. Thanks for all the support and love! I am not the next American Idol, but I sure am a star :)

Beach time baby!!

So most of you know by now that I am headed to Charleston, SC, for the second round of AI. I am so excited to finally get some beach time, but also sad to leave my lovely hubby!
My mom and I set off on Wed morning, at the butt crack of dawn, to Jacksonville, FL, where my awesome granddad and grandmother will be awaiting our arrival. We then leave their house, at around 11pm and make the 4hr trek to Charelston, SC. We will then proceed to wait, again :), for our registration bands and tickets, only to return 2 days later to sing for the AI judges.
This time, at least I know what it is like, and I have my mom, and it seems, the entire country backing my decision, to pursue this crazy thing, once again.
We'll let you know how it goes and if you will see my goofy face on the tube ;-)

Beac time baby!!

Round Two!! Charleston!

Charleston Here I come...
So, as most of you know, I was cut from the first audition, for AI, in Dallas. My mother (my biggest fan) and my husband, have convinced me to head to Charleston to try again. I left the Dallas audition, with heat stroke, and no pass to the next round, but with words of wisdom, from the judges. "Work on your stage prescence, and come to the next city, with the same songs, and we will put you through!"

So my mom and I are headed to Charleston, next week, to pursue my dreams. Please say a prayer, that all my mom's money is not going to waste.
Thanks again for all the support!!
Ciao,
Drea

Hollywood here I come!!

Well, my first experience of American Idol started at 5:30 am, Saturday morning, waiting 4 hours, just to register. We left at 9:45 am with one green bracelet and one yellow bracelet.
We head back tomorrow for a chance to audition in front of the producers.
I'll be in touch tomorrow to let you know how it went.

Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So La, Ti, AAAHHHH!

Holy Moly! I can't believe that tomorrow I will be trying out for American Idol. I tried out the first year and didn't even make the first cut. My friend Steph, dragged me to this "singing audition." It was crazy, we had no idea what it was, just this little singing show. Now, it is the biggest deal and it seems every person and their mother are trying out! I don't have any doubt in my training or my voice, you just never know what they are looking for.
I just can't believe how nervous I am. The butterflys are building in my stomach, the nerves tingeling, and I am so excited at the same time! Eeehhh!
My wonderful husband keeps telling me I am going to Hollywood, and I want to beleive him SO badly. I just can't be sure. Everyone keeps telling me to calm, and be myself, so that is my goal. Walk in there, with a big smile and blow them away. I'll keep you posted and let you know what happens.

The Last My Mistress Show

When I was a little girl, all I wanted to do was Sing! I sang in the shower, in the pool, and anywhere where anyone would listen! About 2 years ago, some friends asked if we wanted to start a band. I had NO IDEA what I was getting myself into. Practice twice a week. Writing every moment you have available and singing like you were in front of 3,ooo people.

We started My Mistress in January of 2005. We had no songs, no real idea of what music we would play and most of all... No Name.

We decided on a name, and ran with it!

The past 2 years we have played for over 1,ooo people. Written more songs than we know what to do with and had more fun than anyone around!

I love the guys, I love the music and most of all I am sad to see My Mistress go!
